As I sat
in a radiologist’s waiting room for my first ever mammogram, I read
a pamphlet that said those with breast cancer survive 10 years, and
I thought to myself, “I need more time! I have two girls to
raise.” Through the quiet times I have with God in the mornings, He
has opened His word to me on many occasions. Waiting to have more
mammograms is no woman’s favorite thing and waiting is not my best
quality, but in 2 Chronicles 20:15-17, God said to me “For the
battle is not yours but God’s. You will not have to fight this
battle. Take up your positions: stand firm and see the deliverance
the Lord will give you. Oh Judah and Jerusalem and (Sheree). Do
not be afraid: do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow
and the Lord will be with you. ” The mammograms the next couple of
years were at times good while others would send me back to
every-three-month checkups. Sometimes we have to go face the battle
and not retreat! Too many times we run from the battles in life,
only to miss seeing the victory God has for us!
When the next mammogram surprised us all
and a biopsy was in the plans, God gave me another message in Isaiah
7 in another battle faced by His people. He said “It will not take
place, it will not happen and if you do not stand firm in your faith
you will not stand at all.” Two days before the biopsy, after
pulling under the carport of our country home, I sat to finish
listening to the song “His Eye Is On The Sparrow”, I thought to
myself, “I’ll ask God, if everything is going to be all right help
me to see a sparrow”, but I stopped myself and said, “I am not going
to do God that way”. He had already given me several scriptures to
stand on. As I continued to listen I thought to myself, “where is a
sparrow when you need one?” and as soon as I finished that thought a
sparrow flew under athe carport just inches from the window of my
Suburban and rested on a pipe on the corner and remained there until
the song was over, then hopped out of sight. As I turned to reach
for my purse in the opposite seat, a sparrow flew past the other
window and out to our barn.Mike, my husband, said “You know Sheree,
God must have a sense of humor with you. After He has assured you
with scriptures, He says, ‘OK lady, here’s a sparrow, too’.” The
sparrow, to me, did not mean that everything would be like I wanted
it, but it did mean that God was in control and taking care of me,
P.S. The biopsy was benign and at the last check-up while waiting
in the radiologist’s office once again, the T.V. had a popular talk
show on. A young woman was thanking her husband for seeing her
through breast cancer. At the end of her thank you she sang the
song… (you guessed it) “His Eye Is On The Sparrow”. My mammogram
was the best one ever and I don’t have to have another for 2 years,
but I do have to see my doctor next year. By the way, this man
prays for his patients.
Praise
the Lord, His eye is on the sparrow and I know he watches
me. I hope this painting gives you peace knowing He watches you
too, and you will rest in His hand no matter what the circumstance. |
